Discussions about pornography focus on ‘good porn’ as well as ‘sex positivity’ more and more, in effect negating the impact pornography has on the women who perform it, the women and girls who experience a porn-saturated culture every day of their lives and the boys and men who use pornography.
As a result pornography is increasingly being sold to younger children as a form of ‘sex education ‘. More worryingly, this has been further validated by some external organisations attending schools and talking about the idea of ‘good porn’. The problem with this however, is the heavy emphasis on ‘sex positivity’ and the idea that children should be encouraged to explore ever more explicit forms of sexual activity, like the kind they may have already seen in pornographic videos. How can we talk about the impact pornography has and how can we talk to children about these issues?
