We are partnering with Vaishnavi Sundar to support her in funding and completing her latest documentary film ‘Behind the Looking Glass‘.
Vaishnavi is an independent feminist filmmaker from India, who has been making films focussing on the experiences of women for the last decade. Her most recent work, the 4-part documentary film ‘Dysphoric‘ (2021) was viewed over 200,000 times. The series received a mention in the UK House of Commons earlier this year.
The documentary ‘Behind the Looking Glass’ aims to bring the voices of a group of women, sometimes referred to as ‘trans-widows’ into the spotlight. These are women whose male partners have undergone or have a desire to transition. ‘Behind the Looking Glass’ will be the first film enabling women from across the globe to share how they have been affected by their male partner’s (desire to) transition.

Please support Vaishnavi to bring the voices of these women to a wider audience! 100% of donations made will go towards completing the film, which is due to be released tentatively in 2023.
As men we feel it is important to engage men in anti-sexist and pro-feminist work, stand beside women who fight for their rights and to have their voices heard.

The voices of these women – who are finding themselves in a situation where their male partner has or wants to transition – are rarely heard; with many undoubtedly feeling silenced by shame and societal prejudices. The current climate is such that it makes it nearly impossible for these women to speak freely.
This being the case, there are additional financial complications in finishing the film due to extra time and effort needing to be invested in preserving the anonymity of some of the women who have been brave enough to speak out.
